Arashiyama Tour from Kyoto

Our Arashiyama Tour from Kyoto will take you through the renowned Bamboo Forest and up to the iconic Storm Mountain for views across Kyoto. You will travel to Saga-Arashiyama station by train from Kyoto Central. The translation of the meaning of Arashiyama is ‘Storm Mountain’. Named after the mountain that towers above the quaint neighborhood, Arashiyama is an idyllic area that is most famous for its beautiful natural scenery. Upon arrival, the tour will walk across Togetsukyo Bridge which was named by the Emperor Kameyama for the way it looks beneath the moonlit sky. From the bridge, visitors will get panoramic views of Oi River and the Storm Mountain. We will then begin the climb to the top of Storm Mountain which usually takes around 20 minutes. The climb forms part of the Arashiyama Monkey Park, home to over 170 Macaque monkeys. Once we reach the top, you can feed the monkeys in the secure feeding hut and stroll around the area, taking in the views of the city below. The next stop on the tour will be Okochi Mountain Villa which is comprised of a number of shrines and Japanese gardens. Here you can sample traditional matcha tea accompanied by some local sweet treats. We will then visit the world-renowned Bamboo Forest. This long winding pathway is surrounded by towering bamboo groves which almost resemble a fantasy movie. At the end of the Bamboo Forest is Nonomiya Shrine which was once a purification ground for female members of the royal family. The Bamboo Forest will be the final destination on the tour. From here you will return through the village back to Saga-Arashiyama station.
